Tom Rossau at AL sydbank
The project
For the new coworking space at Sluseholmen 7, Tom Rossau designed and delivered a series of bespoke lighting pieces tailored specifically to the architecture and atmosphere of the space.
The project combines custom-made installations with carefully selected standard designs, creating a cohesive lighting concept that enhances both functionality and aesthetic identity.
Bespoke design
The TR747 lamp begins with something simple: a paper airplane. A childhood icon. The quiet joy of recognition.
The TR747 is part of this story, created on a larger scale than ever before as a central, sculptural element.
The project combines custommade instal-lations with carefully selected standard de- signs, forming a cohesive lighting concept that supports both functionality and a distinct visual identity.
Realising a paper airplane in birch veneer is not straightforward. It demands precision, persistence, and a willingness to take on complexity. But challenge is part of the process. It’s how ideas evolve, how they become tangible.
Timeline
August 2024 - August 2025
From the initial dialogue, the project focused on flexibility, enabled by in house production and close collaboration with European suppliers, allowing for both bespoke and scalable solutions.
Early phases centered on understanding the client’s needs through references, materials, and concepts, followed by 3D development of key spaces like the atrium at AL Sydbank’s headquarters at Sluseholmen 7. As the design evolved, drawings were refined into detailed models with technical specifications and pricing. Production and planning were handled efficiently in house, including custom developed elements such as the large atrium lamps, where around 800 oversized birch Airplanes were hand folded and pressed.
The final delivery was completed on site with coordinated installation, resulting in a seamless process defined by precision and craftsmanship.Sluseholmen 7
Responisble
Design
At Tom Rossau, responsible production is at the heart of everything we do. By keeping production local and in-house, we can turn ideas into finished products efficiently, while crafting bespoke solutions tailored to each project. We source over 90% of our materials in Europe, focusing on sustainable wood, especially birch from Finland.
Since 2024, we’ve been planting a tree for every Tom Rossau lamp sold, and we’re still doing it. Through our partnership with Greenspark, each lamp helps support reforestation, restore ecosystems, and protect biodiversity.
Our work on the AL Sydbank project, including the large TR747 installations
in birch veneer, demonstrates how this approach allows us to combine respon- sible, high-quality design with impactful, customized results.
